Atlanta, GA – In between stand-up comedy jobs, Plug Chapman drives for Uber and Lyft to make extra money. It also seems to give him endless material to use on stage.
Rideshare services have become increasingly popular over the years. They offer a convenient, affordable, and safe mode of transportation to people. However, there are times when rideshare drivers and passengers experience unexpected incidents that make them question the safety of these services.
Crazy stuff happens when you let a stranger in your car. And if you’ve probably seen some of the YouTube Uber confessions videos. In this article, we jump into some of the craziest experiences Plug has experienced as a rideshare driver.
The Incident – “My Worst Uber Ever”
Some may describe this incident as the worst Uber ride ever. One of the craziest incidents occurred in Atlanta, Georgia. It involves a rideshare driver who was stabbed and stopped to pick up strippers during a ride. Yes, it really happened.
Chapman explains, he picked up a ride off of Techwood Drive in Atlanta, Georgia. It was an Uber pool. An Uber Pool is where you share the ride with others and make extra stops. And as a driver, if you skip the stops you get penalized by Uber.
“I am making small talk. Everything all right back there you got a little cold?”
The passenger replies, “Man I am stabbed.” Chapman instantly pulls over and turns on the lights and the man is bleeding. The rider says the ambulance was going to be too much so he chose an Uber pool instead. And to add to the craziness, the rider picked the furthest hospital.
Chapman says on the way to the hospital they stopped to pick up strippers at Onyx and the stabbing victim got so mad he gave a bad review.
What are the biggest problems with rideshare passengers?
“Passengers always leave stuff in your car and they expect you to meet up with them the next day to give them whatever it is that left back to them,” Chapman says.
He says if you leave trash in his car, he always checks his back seat after the ride and throws whatever it is you left into your yard.
In this TikTok story, Plug talks about people using Lyft to sell drugs. It’s funny and sad, but a true fact that people will use rideshares to do drug runs, and most times, the driver has no idea what’s going on.
What is a common misconception about Uber drivers?
“People think we are a cab!” Chapman says a cab gets paid for sitting and waiting but ride-share drivers don’t. So don’t ask an Uber or Lyft driver to get online at McDonald’s at 3 in the morning when the line is thirty minutes long.
“Most people think you’re supposed to go grocery shopping. I apologize to all the grandmas that I have left on the Westside inside a Kroger. Nah, grandma!” Chapman says never ask a ride-share driver to wait outside a grocery store while you shop. They will leave.
Conclusion:
Rideshare services have revolutionized the way we travel. However, they are not without their challenges and risks. As a rider or driver, it is important to be cautious and follow safety protocols to ensure a safe and comfortable experience. The Rideshare Confessions platform provides a space for drivers and passengers to share their experiences, and hopefully, these stories will help others stay safe while using rideshare services.
